Synopsis
Ghe, ghe, ghe, screeched a peregrine falcon as she landed on the ledge of a skyscraper. Scarlett was carrying food to feed her four hungry babies, called eyases, in their nest high above Baltimore. Scarlett's eyases were the first peregrines successfully hatched in the wild in the eastern United States in more than thirty years. In the 1950s falcons started disappearing at an alarming rate. However, with a ban on DDT and the help of dedicated ornithologists, falcons have made a steady comeback.
